HRH The Princess Royal visits Horsfall House to recognise staff, volunteers and future plans
Horsfall House was delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness The Princess Royal and Her Royal Highness’s husband, Sir Tim Laurence, for a special visit recognising colleagues, volunteers, students and supporters whose often unseen contributions are vital to the success of Horsfall House.
During the visit, Her Royal Highness and Sir Tim met colleagues from across the organisation, including members of the kitchen and laundry teams, whose work helps ensure residents are comfortable, well supported and cared for each day. They spent time with residents and day centre clients, joining in with their activities, and gained an insight into our students’ experiences on placement from Stroud and Cirencester colleges.
The visit provided an opportunity to thank the volunteers whose commitment and kindness play such an important role in the Horsfall House community, from offering companionship to supporting gardening, pet therapy, music, fundraising and governance.
Chair of Trustees, Duncan Wood, also showed Her Royal Highness some of the proposals currently under consultation for the future development of Horsfall House. These include options for a new lift and an extension to the Gatcombe Lounge, aimed at improving accessibility, enhancing communal facilities and helping the charity meet the needs of local people for years to come.
Brian Leitch, Chief Executive of Horsfall House, said: “We are sincerely grateful for Her Royal Highness’s continued support and patronage, which means a great deal to everyone connected with Horsfall House. As a charity rooted in the local community, it was a valuable opportunity to highlight the contribution of our staff, volunteers and supporters in helping us provide excellent care and support for residents, clients and their families.”
The visit concluded with the presentation of a pumpkin posy, kindly donated by local florist Gemma Melsome, to Her Royal Highness on behalf of everyone at Horsfall House.
Please note: photographs from the visit will be shared here in the coming week, once approval has been received.
