Accessibility Statement Horsfall House
Website Accessibility
We aim to ensure that everyone can access and use our website, including people with visual, hearing, cognitive or motor impairments, in line with the Disability Discrimination Act.
What is Accessibility?
In this instance, accessibility refers to the attempt to ensure that our sites content can be read by everyone, regardless of disability and technology used.
We understand that accessibility should not be seen as an “optional extra”, but as a fundamental consideration at every stage of site development work, and we aim to ensure that our media works consistently with its assistive technologies to ensure an accessible experience for disabled users.
People can be at a disadvantage when browsing a web site because they have not been accounted for in the design of the site. We have tried to provide a high level of accessibility and developments in this regard are still ongoing.
Accessible for All
To support accessibility, we:
- Provide descriptive alternative text (alt text) for images where appropriate.
- Use Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) to ensure consistent presentation, layout and text formatting across the website.
- Use meaningful link text that clearly indicates the destination of each link.
- Write content in clear, concise and straightforward language appropriate to the subject matter.
- Maintain consistent navigation and clearly structured page layouts.
- Organise information into manageable sections and group related content together to improve readability and understanding.
- Use legible fonts and appropriate colour contrast to support readability.
- Minimise the use of tables and pop-up content wherever possible.
- Avoid flashing or flickering content that could adversely affect some users.
- Do not use Flash for navigation or information-based content.
